Communication Technology
Baron & Company founder and president Gerald Baron was on the emergency response team during the Olympic Pipeline explosion in Bellingham, Washington in June 1999. He served as the Company’s spokesperson during the early stages of the incident. Emerging from this experience, Baron designed a crisis communication technology called PIER (Public Information and Emergency Response). Developing the PIER system was a natural result of Baron’s experience in this, and several other, crises. He recognized the critical need for immediate dissemination of the right information to interested stakeholders.

The convergence of Mr. Baron’s public affairs and crisis communications experience, the Internet and a strong desire to improve the speed of the communications flow led to the birth of PIER. Since 2000, small, medium and large organizations have deployed PIER to respond in a crisis situation and to build their reputation on a day-to-day basis.

Due to its widespread use and acceptance by a number of large organizations, such as the US Coast Guard, British Petroleum, Shell Oil and the Georgia Department of Emergency Management, PIER has become the accepted standard in technology for stakeholder communications.
